Past Articles - The Best of GrapeVine

Because music has been such an integral part of Susan's life, nothing pleases her more than to spread the word about music written and performed by dedicated Catholic artists. She spent the last 10 years encouraging the burgeoning Catholic artist community in their various ministries through GrapeVine. On this page the best of these articles.

Many of these articles come from the hard copy versions of GrapeVine which you can purchase from Lulu.com. Each article will have a link to the magazine so that you can easily find it and purchase it.

Renee Bondi – Sending out an SOS
Renee Bondi was a popular young music teacher and singer, engaged to be married - a vibrant young woman with her whole life in front of her, until she suffered a freak accident which rendered her a quadriplegic. Here you can read her inspiring story of how she learned to live again, and sing again, in joy.

Learning to be Present (Susan's regular column in GrapeVine)
"I’ve heard that term many times in my walk as a Catholic but never really understood what it meant. In fact, the term used to annoy me. I’ve heard it said many times that Jesus is “present” to us in the Eucharist, that the “real presence” is in the Eucharist, that we must be “present” to one another. But what does that mean?" . . .

Sharmane Adams - Sweet ‘Surrender'
"In 2006, Sharmane Adams received a disturbing phone call. The Pensacola, FL resident relates, “my girlfriend from high school called me and told me her 5 year old son was being treated for a life threatening illness. I was scared for her. I wanted to be with her. I didn’t hesitate to get on my knees and offer my prayers for them as they faced the unknown. I just knew she didn’t want to hear one more person say ‘Is there anything I can do for you?’ I asked God how I could help my friend, and He truly spoke to me by telling me to put my efforts into my passion . . . music.” . . .

Behind the phenomenon that is the Rosary Army
. . . "One of those affiliates is the Rosary Army Catholic Podcast and its videocast, That Catholic Show. Greg and Jennifer Willits from Conyers, GA, parents of 4 young boys and creators of these programs, are pioneers in their own right. They have produced the Rosary Army Catholic Podcast (dubbed the first Catholic reality show) since 2005. Greg and Jennifer are now an integral part of SQPN and have broken new ground with That Catholic Show, a videocast now on DVD that teaches the Catholic faith in a fresh and exciting way.
I sat down with Greg Willits and asked him about the Rosary Army, SQPN, That Catholic Show, and the future of their podcasting work." . . .

From the Christmas 2007 issue of GrapeVine, available for sale on Lulu.com:

Lynn Geyer brings a rebirth of Christ to New York City’s Christmas
"A few years ago, Lynn Geyer, a Catholic recording artist, found herself becoming more and more concerned about the omission of the word “Christmas” from Christmastime. “Even cashiers were forbidden to speak it to customers, etc., etc., etc!” she says. “It’s as if ‘they,’ (whoever ‘they’ are) wanted to completely kick Jesus out of his own birthday!” Christmas shoppers have noticed over the past several years that “Merry Christmas” has been replaced
with “Happy Holidays” in their favorite stores. Ironically, much of this was coming from businesses which
derive approximately 20% of their annual sales from Christmas shopping!" . . .

Rob Evans is the Donut Man and he is PSYCHED about being Catholic!
"Just what do donuts have to do with Jesus Christ? If you’re Rob Evans, aka The Donut Man, plenty! His little donut sidekick, Duncan, says it all: “Life without Jesus is like a donut, ‘cause there’s a hole in the middle of your heart!’" . . .
